US Lifts Ban on Military Aid to Ukraine After Ceasefire Agreement

Washington (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant development, the Trump administration has announced the immediate lifting of the ban on military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine. This decision comes after Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire and peace talks with Russia, following nine hours of talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office welcomed the proposal, with Andrey Yermak stating that Ukraine is ready for peace and considers the proposal positive. However, the ceasefire is contingent upon Russia's agreement to its terms.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will present the proposal to Russia, emphasizing that the ball is now in Russia's court. Additionally, the US and Ukraine have agreed to conclude a comprehensive agreement for the development of Ukraine's critical mineral resources, deemed vital to Ukraine's long-term prosperity and security. The ban on military aid and intelligence sharing was initially imposed by the US to pressure Ukraine into engaging in peace talks with Russia. With Ukraine's consent, the US has now lifted the ban, paving the way for renewed cooperation.
