US (The Uttam Hindu): The US military carried out an airstrike in northwestern Syria on Thursday, eliminating Mohammed Salah al-Jabir, a senior figure linked to an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organization. In an official statement, the US Central Command confirmed that the strike was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist groups and disrupt their operations. Jabir was associated with Hurras al-Din, a group aligned with al-Qaeda.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian militant group Hamas confirmed the death of its military chief, Mohammed Daif, in an Israeli airstrike on Thursday. This announcement came months after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had initially declared his death. A Hamas spokesperson, Abu Obeida, verified Daif’s death in a video statement. Israel had previously stated in August 2023 that Daif was killed in an airstrike in the Khan Yunis area on July 13.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the abduction of over 200 individuals. In response, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of more than 46,000 Palestinians.

Recently, a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. As part of the deal, hostages and prisoners were exchanged. On Thursday, Hamas released eight hostages in exchange for 110 Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. The released hostages included five Thai agricultural workers and three German-Israeli citizens.
