New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A family traveling from Bihar to Goa found themselves trapped in the dense forest of Khanapur in Belgaum district, Karnataka, after following a route suggested by Google Maps. The navigation app directed them to a short cut through the forest, but they soon realized the dangerous situation they were in. With no mobile network and no clear path out, the family struggled throughout the night, trying to find their way to safety.

In the morning, after walking approximately four kilometers, they regained mobile network and immediately contacted emergency services by calling helpline number 112. The local police swiftly responded, traced their location, and rescued the family members safely.

This incident highlights the risks associated with relying solely on digital navigation systems. Just last month, a similar incident occurred in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where two people lost their lives when Google Maps directed them to an under-construction bridge, leading to their car plunging into a river. The victims, Vivek and Amit, had been traveling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding when the fatal mistake occurred.

These incidents raise serious concerns about the accuracy and safety of routes suggested by Google Maps, especially in unfamiliar or hazardous areas. While Google Maps is a useful tool for navigation, travelers are advised to exercise caution and double-check routes when venturing into unknown territories.
