Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump on Saturday revealed that he visited the White House and the US State Department headquarters ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington to ensure that the entire area was cleaned and looked neat. "We said there are a lot of tents right in front of the State Department. They have to be removed and they removed them immediately. We want a capital that can be a topic of discussion around the world," Trump said while delivering a speech at the Department of Justice (DOJ). "Prime Minister Modi of India, the President of France and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, all of them came to visit me in the last week and a half. I didn't want them to see tents. I didn't want them to see graffiti. I didn't want them to see broken barriers and potholes on the roads. And we made it beautiful," Trump said. The US President stressed that his administration will ensure that the US capital is completely cleaned up.

Trump praised Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser, saying, "We are cleaning up our city. We are cleaning up this great capital and we will not allow crime, we will not tolerate crime, we will remove graffiti, we are removing tents and we are working closely with the administration." He said Bowser is doing a good job. The US President hosted PM Modi in Washington DC on February 13. His visit came within three weeks of Trump starting his second term at the White House. During the two-day visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stayed at Blair House - a historic guest house that is a 70,000 square feet extension of the White House. Welcoming PM Modi in his Oval Office, Trump said he was "very happy" to welcome his "friend Narendra Modi" to the White House. When the two leaders met at the White House, the US President also presented PM Modi with a signed copy of his book "Our Journey Together" and wrote "You are great."
