New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): An important update has come for crores of passengers traveling by train. Indian Railways is going to take strict action against those traveling in sleeper and AC coaches on waiting tickets from May 1 to ensure the convenience of passengers with confirmed tickets.

Under the new rules, if a passenger has a waiting ticket, he will be allowed to travel only in the general class (unreserved coach). Waiting tickets booked online from IRCTC are automatically cancelled after the chart is prepared, but many passengers try to travel in reserved coaches by taking waiting tickets from the counter, causing inconvenience to passengers with confirmed tickets. The rules will be strictly enforced from May 1. If a passenger is found in sleeper or AC coach with a waiting ticket, the ticket checking staff (TTE) can fine him as per the rules or send him to the general coach.

Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, Captain Shashi Kiran, has confirmed that this step has been taken with the aim of making the journey of passengers with confirmed tickets comfortable. He said that entry of passengers with waiting tickets into reserved coaches not only leads to disputes over occupancy of seats but also leads to unnecessary crowding in the coaches, which hinders the movement of passengers and makes the journey troublesome.

Railways says that after this strictness, only those passengers will be allowed to travel in sleeper and AC coaches who have confirmed tickets, which will help in maintaining discipline and order in trains. In such a situation, if you often travel on waiting tickets, then now you will have to plan your journey more carefully.
