Tragic Road Accident in Mohali: 3 Punjab University Students Dead, 1 Seriously Injured

Mohali (The Uttam Hindu): A late-night road accident on Sunday claimed the lives of three students and left one critically injured in the Thana Majri area near Boothgarh light point. The incident occurred around 11:30 PM when a car traveling from Chandigarh to Kurali lost control and crashed. There were four occupants in the vehicle—three men and a woman—all associated with Punjab University.
The deceased have been identified as Shubham and Rubina, both students of the university’s Forensic Science department, and Saurabh Pandey, a former student of the Human Genome Department. The injured, Manvendra, is also a student of Forensic Science and is currently undergoing treatment at PGI Chandigarh. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue at General Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali. Police have begun an investigation into the accident.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident was caused by excessive speeding. The car reportedly crossed the Boothgarh intersection at a speed of over 100 km/h. Despite the presence of speed breakers at the junction to prevent such mishaps, the vehicle failed to slow down, leading to the fatal crash. Locals have raised concerns about repeated overspeeding incidents at this location and are urging stricter enforcement of traffic rules.
