TikTok Breathes a Sigh of Relief Under Trump’s Presidency, says Thanks President
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Chinese social media platform TikTok has announced its preparations to resume services in the United States. The company expressed gratitude to newly-elected President Donald Trump, stating that his assurances have bolstered their confidence and provided much-needed support.
This development follows Trump’s promise to allow TikTok to operate in the U.S. again, reversing the ban imposed by the previous administration. On Saturday night, TikTok ceased operations in the U.S. due to the Biden government’s ban order. In a post on X, TikTok said, “In accordance with our agreement with service providers, we are working to resume our services. We thank President Trump for assuring our providers that they will not face penalties. TikTok supports over 170 million Americans and more than 7 million small businesses.”
In a message shared on Truth Social, Trump stated his intention to issue an executive order on Monday, delaying TikTok's ban by 90 days to work toward a long-term solution. He also proposed that the U.S. hold a 50% stake in a joint venture involving TikTok to protect national security. Trump added, “This will ensure TikTok stays in good hands, creates jobs, and becomes a valuable asset for the U.S. Without our approval, TikTok cannot continue. With it, the platform could be worth hundreds of billions—perhaps even trillions.”
Trump also emphasized his commitment to preserving free speech and opposing unwarranted censorship. In his victory speech, he remarked, “We like TikTok and need to save it—not just for jobs but for fairness. While we won’t give our business to China, we can approve TikTok under conditions that benefit America.”
