The Man Who Threatened PM Modi: What Sparked the Deadly Attack Plot?
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a threat Worli police in Mumbai traveled to Ajmer, Rajasthan and apprehended the suspect. The individual identified as Mirza Mohammad Beg had sent a message to the Mumbai Traffic Police helpline threatening to kill PM Modi. According to the police, Beg had been fired from his job due to his alcohol consumption which led him to send the threatening message out of frustration.
Mirza Mohammad Beg approximately 36 years old hails from Jharkhand and had previously worked at a private company in Palanpur, Gujarat. On Saturday morning, the Mumbai Traffic Police helpline received a WhatsApp message claiming that weapons and bombs had been smuggled into the country to kill PM Modi. The message also suggested that the sender was associated with the ISI.
The police investigation revealed that Beg had been dismissed from his job after showing up to work intoxicated. Angered by his termination he sent the threat to PM Modi. Following the message the accused switched off his phone but he was later tracked down through technical surveillance. While such threats are often made including claims of bombs or attacks on planes, schools and hospitals the police responded swiftly in this case. In many instances those responsible for such threats turn out to be minors.
