New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Tensions erupted at the 1000 Kundiya Mahayagna held at Keshav Park in Kurukshetra on Saturday, following a dispute over the serving of stale food to Brahmins. The situation escalated when a security personnel fired a bullet, injuring a Brahmin named Ashish Tiwari. He was admitted in serious condition to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Civil Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Reports indicate that 23 people were injured in the incident.

Angered by the incident, Brahmins blocked the Kurukshetra-Kaithal road outside the Mahayagna site, demanding action. The situation became tense, prompting police to intervene and attempt to clear the blockade. A heavy police presence has been deployed to maintain control, although the atmosphere remains uneasy.

The ongoing 1000 Kundiya Mahayagna, which began on March 18 and was scheduled to run until March 27, has been marred by this controversy. The event, which involved 1,00,000 offerings being made daily, is now in doubt. Prominent figures, including BJP state president Mohanlal Badoli, Chief Minister’s wife Suman Saini, and former state minister Subhash Sudha, had already participated in the religious event.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, but as of the latest updates, the situation in Kurukshetra remains tense.
