New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has raised serious concerns over the health of farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike for over a month. The court reprimanded the Punjab government and criticized farmer leaders opposing Dallewal's hospitalization despite his deteriorating condition.

During a hearing on the matter, the Supreme Court addressed a contempt petition filed against Punjab's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP). Justice Suryakant urged the Chief Secretary to convince Dallewal, emphasizing that those opposing his hospitalization are not acting in his best interest.

The court granted the Punjab government until December 31 to persuade Dallewal to accept medical care. It also assured that any assistance required from the central government would be made available. The assurance from Punjab's Advocate General, Chief Secretary, and DGP led the court to allow more time for appropriate action to be taken.
