Cape Canaveral (The Uttam Hindu): Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams has been stuck in space for six months with her fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore. It has been six months on Thursday since both of them went into space. There are still two more months left to return to Earth.

Both went into space on June 5 in Boeing's new Starliner crew capsule. They were supposed to return in a week, but due to a malfunction in the Starliner spacecraft, both are stranded on the International Space Station. NASA considered the spacecraft too risky for a return flight, so they will have to wait till February to return to Earth. NASA has started its campaign for the return of Sunita and Wilmore.

SpaceX Crew-9 mission was launched on 28 September 2024 for the return of both astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore. Two astronauts have been sent in it, so that while returning they can bring back Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore. Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore reached the space orbit on 5 June 2024. With this, Sunita Williams registered a record in her name by becoming the first person to fly Boeing's new Starliner crew capsule.
