Warangal (The Uttam Hindu): In a major heist, burglars made off with over 19 kg of gold ornaments, valued at Rs 13.6 crore, from a public sector bank in Rayaparthy mandal, Warangal district, Telangana, police confirmed on Wednesday. The robbery came to light on Tuesday when the bank staff discovered signs of a break-in and promptly reported it to the authorities. Upon investigation, police revealed that the thieves had used gas cutters to break into the bank and access its main chest, where the gold was securely stored.

In addition to the theft of the gold, the burglars also damaged the bank’s CCTV system and stole the digital video recorder (DVR), effectively erasing any potential footage of the crime. This has significantly complicated the investigation, as there are no direct visual leads to identify the culprits.

Following the discovery, the police registered a case and launched an extensive investigation into the matter. They have formed four special teams to track down the criminals and recover the stolen gold. The authorities are now working on gathering forensic evidence and following up on leads in an attempt to crack the case. The scale of the robbery has raised concerns about security measures in public sector banks in the region.
