Shocking Coincidence :10 Nurses Diagnosed with Brain Tumors on the Same Hospital Floor, Doctors Express Concern
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A very shocking and serious case has come to light from the US state of Massachusetts. At least 10 nurses working on the same floor at Newton-Wellesley Hospital here have been confirmed to have brain tumors, which has raised concerns among health workers and the administration. According to a CBS News report, this case is related to the Maternity Care Center located on the fifth floor of the hospital. On April 1, while talking to 11 nurses working on this floor, it was revealed that recently five nurses have been diagnosed with brain tumor. Earlier also, 6 other nurses working on the same floor have become victims of this serious disease.
A victimized nurse said that this problem has happened with many colleagues in the past and some nurses have even undergone brain tumor surgery. The nurses allege that the hospital administration is not paying attention to this serious pattern and is not taking any corrective action. They say that they are not getting adequate help from the hospital. Expressing concern, a nurse said, "This cannot be just a coincidence. It is very important to know the reason behind this."
After the case came to light, the hospital administration conducted an investigation following the guidelines of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The hospital claims that the radiation and surrounding environment on the fifth floor have been examined, but no abnormality has been found in the environment that could pose a risk of brain tumor. Officials also say that the drinking water in the hospital is regularly tested and no excess radiation has been found on the fifth floor. The hospital has also denied any known connection of brain tumor to wearing masks for a long time.
Health experts believe that ionizing radiation can cause some types of tumors. However, they also say that such radiation usually affects the entire body, not just the brain, unless the radiation directly targets the head. At the moment, it is not clear why so many nurses at the same workplace are falling victim to brain tumors. Despite the claims of the hospital administration, anxiety is prevailing among the staff and the demand to find out the reasons for this mysterious cluster is gaining momentum.
