Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant decision, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) executive meeting concluded with the removal of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh from his position at Sri Damdama Sahib. The meeting, chaired by SGPC Chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami took place at Teja Singh Samundri Hall the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar.

The executive body approved the findings of the inquiry committee investigating alleged breaches of duty and administrative irregularities by Giani Harpreet Singh. Following the acceptance of the report, a decision was taken to terminate his services. While some SGPC members opposed the move, the decision was ultimately passed by majority consent.

Giani Harpreet Singh had already been suspended as part of disciplinary proceedings with an SGPC-formed inquiry committee probing charges against him. Meanwhile, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib had initially scheduled a meeting of the Jathedars of all five Takhts on January 28 to discuss the matter. However, this meeting was later postponed, with Giani Raghbir Singh stating that it would be rescheduled upon his return from abroad.
