New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Scientists in China have succeeded in giving one life from two fathers. Know why this experiment is so important and is it possible for two men to have children? A team of Chinese researchers led by molecular biologist Zhi Kun Li of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) achieved this milestone using stem cell engineering. This is not the first time scientists have given life to a mouse without a biological mother. In 2023, researchers in Japan did the same, but the lifespan of that mouse was limited.

This time scientists in China have succeeded in an experiment in which a mouse with two fathers was not only born but also grew up to be a young child. Previous attempts to create eggs from male stem cells have failed. Although there is a way to have children without a biological mother through surrogacy, there are many challenges in this process. The mouse born from this historic experiment in China, although unable to reproduce independently, is in better health than other similar animals and does not show any health problems.

It is worth noting that half of the siblings of the mice in this study did not survive to adulthood, and about 90% of the embryos did not survive. The success rate needs to be significantly improved before this technique can be applied to humans. However, the researchers believe that their work will contribute to a better understanding of some genetic mental disorders in humans. This experiment of Chinese scientists is a major achievement in the field of genetic engineering. However, many challenges have to be overcome before it can be applied to humans. This research can give a new direction to reproductive techniques in the future and can become a ray of hope for those who are unable to have children through traditional methods.
