Sarwan Singh Pandher Leads Farmers' Protest: Delhi March Planned for January 21
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The protesting farmers have announced a march to Delhi on January 21, with 101 farmers participating in the rally. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher made the announcement, stating that the central government is unwilling to negotiate, prompting the farmers to escalate their movement.
Demand for MSP Guarantee Law
Sarwan Singh Pandher also issued a warning to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that during his tenure a law ensuring the purchase of crops at MSP (Minimum Support Price) must be implemented. He emphasized that the farmers are resolute and will march to Delhi to have their demands fulfilled.
Previous Attempts to March
This is not the first time farmers have planned such a protest. In December, they attempted to march to Delhi three times but were stopped by the Haryana Police through barricading. Despite these setbacks, the farmers remain determined and have decided to organize another march.
Hunger Strike and Prolonged Protest
Farmers have been protesting for 11 months at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, demanding a law guaranteeing MSP. Farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal has been on a hunger strike for 52 days at the Khanauri border with his health deteriorating. In solidarity, 111 farmers have joined the hunger strike, which has now entered its second consecutive day.
