New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump hosted the first Iftar party at the White House on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. However, the party has stirred up a wave of controversy. American Muslim lawmakers and prominent leaders of the community were not invited to the party. Instead, foreign ambassadors of Muslim countries were invited, while the tradition of organizing Iftar parties at the White House has been going on for the last two decades.

President Trump said on the occasion of Iftar dinner, "I welcome all of you to Iftar dinner at the White House. We are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan in Islam. It is a wonderful month. Ramadan Mubarak to Muslims all over the world. We honor one of the greatest religions in the world."

Many Muslim civil rights groups protested against this program. A group of Muslim leaders named "Not Trump's Iftar" called it an example of Trump's hypocritical politics. One protester said, "This is a kind of hypocrisy of Donald Trump. On the one hand, he bans Muslims from entering the country, and on the other hand, he organizes Iftar parties."
