Rs 140 CRORE ROAD REVIVAL: Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema's Game-Changing Plan for Punjab's Urban Roads

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu):In a significant move to transform Punjab's urban infrastructure, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced a Rs 140 crore project to revamp 42 km of roads in Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar. The project aims to create world-class urban spaces, elevating the state's infrastructure to global standards.
Comprehensive Road Redesign: The project involves a comprehensive redesign of the roads to address traffic congestion, ensure uniform road width, and prevent repeated damage. This will be achieved through:
- Improving the drainage system to remove traffic congestion
- Ensuring uniform width of the road
- Preventing repeated damage to the roads
Accessible Footpaths and Service Upgrades: The project also includes the construction of attractive footpaths through landscaping to prevent dust pollution. Additionally, services like:
- Street lights
- Bus stands
- Water supply lines
will be reconstructed to improve traffic and efficiency.
Robust Maintenance Plan: A robust maintenance plan will be implemented to ensure accountability and long-term quality. Contractors developing the roads will be responsible for maintaining the respective project for the next ten years.
Three-Phase Implementation
The project will be implemented in three distinct phases:
1. Design Phase: Top urban planners and international experts will prepare detailed layouts over four months.
2. Construction Phase: Leading construction agencies will implement the designs as per international standards over eight months.
3. Maintenance Phase: Contractors will ensure the maintenance of the roads for the next ten years.
