Chhattisgarh (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating road accident claimed five lives and left many injured in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district on Saturday. The incident occurred near Chandameta village, under the Darbha police station area in Jagdalpur, when a mini cargo vehicle carrying around 45 passengers overturned in a valley. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Nag, the vehicle lost control and skidded before overturning.

Rescue operations were swiftly initiated by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police. Medical Officer Dr. Dilip Kashyap from Kasulti Hospital confirmed that 30 injured individuals had been admitted, with four fatalities reported on the spot and one succumbing to injuries at the hospital. A total of 81 people have been reported injured in the accident.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which was overloaded with passengers. Authorities are probing whether the accident resulted from driver negligence or a technical fault in the vehicle. The tragedy has left the Bastar district in mourning as inquiries into the cause of the crash continue.
