RDX Seized from Suspect Linked to Former Deputy CM Badal Attack, Another Minister Targeted
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal narrowly escaped an attack in Amritsar, Punjab, when he was shot at. Following the incident, Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu made a significant statement, revealing that the accused in the attack, Narayan Singh Chaura, had also attempted to kill him in the past.
Bittu explained that when he was the Member of Parliament for Sri Anandpur Sahib in 2009, Chaura had tried to assassinate him as well. At the time, the then SSP of Rupnagar had warned Bittu about the threat, revealing that Chaura was carrying RDX in his car. Due to the danger, Bittu had to cancel his public events for three days, after which the accused was arrested.
Expressing gratitude for Badal’s escape in this attack, Bittu stressed that strict action should be taken against individuals like Chaura, as the incident is highly concerning. Bittu also recalled the tragic assassination of his grandfather, former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, in 1995, and the involvement of Chaura in helping the accused escape from Burail Jail. He referred to Chaura as a significant criminal who aided in the escape of the perpetrators.
Bittu further condemned the efforts made to protect such criminals, pointing out that they receive support from both within India and abroad, including assistance from high-profile lawyers. He emphasized that allowing such individuals to roam free undermines society, causing harm to the social fabric.
