New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Following the tragic stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station, which claimed the lives of 18 people, the Indian Railways has announced compensation for the victims. The families of the deceased will receive Rs 10 lakh each, while those seriously injured will be compensated with Rs 2.5 lakh, and individuals with minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh.

In the wake of the incident, the Delhi Police have initiated a review of CCTV footage from the railway station to determine the cause of the stampede. The police have also maintained a barricade at the entry gate of the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital on Sunday, as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to DCP (Railways) KPS Malhotra, the stampede occurred after a large crowd had gathered on Platform 14, where the Prayagraj Express was stationed. The delayed departures of the Swatantra Senani and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani trains caused overcrowding on Platforms 12, 13, and 14, ultimately leading to the chaos and the tragic stampede.
