Punjab Woman’s Murder Mystery Solved: Husband, an AAP Leader, Behind the Plot

Ludhiana (The Uttam Hindu): A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Anokh Mittal claimed that his wife was killed during a robbery, Ludhiana Police arrested him and his girlfriend on Monday accusing them of hiring contract killers to carry out the crime.

According to the police, a total of six individuals including Mittal and his partner have been taken into custody, while one suspect remains on the run.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal revealed that Mittal had orchestrated his wife's murder with the help of his lover offering Rs 2.5 lakh to the hired killers. He had already paid Rs 50,000 in advance with the remaining Rs 2 lakh to be given after the crime was executed.

Investigations further uncovered that this was not the first attempt on his wife's life. Mittal had previously plotted two failed attempts before finally executing the murder. The motive behind the crime was linked to his extramarital affair which his wife Lipsi, also known as Manvi had discovered. Fearing exposure, he conspired to eliminate her, police said.

Authorities have seized the vehicle used in the crime and are collecting further evidence. While Mittal’s girlfriend was not present at the crime scene, she is believed to have played an active role in the planning and conspiracy, the police added.

On Sunday, Mittal had initially claimed that he and his wife were returning from dinner on the night of February 15 when he stopped his car near Rurka Road in Dehlon. He alleged that five to six attackers in another vehicle assaulted him with an iron rod and forced him to inhale an intoxicating substance rendering him unconscious.

Mittal, who had joined AAP three months ago, said he regained consciousness about 20 minutes later and found his wife lying on the road with critical injuries. He claimed she succumbed to her wounds after being taken to the hospital and that the attackers had stolen his car and his wife's jewellery.

However, police investigations have now revealed that the robbery claim was a cover-up exposing the murder as a premeditated crime orchestrated by Mittal and his accomplices.
