Punjab Vigilance Bureau Nabs Constable for Rs 60,000 Bribe Demand

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): In its drive against corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested constable Adarshdeep Singh posted at CIA-2 Staff, Amritsar, on the charge of demanding a bribe of Rs 60,000. Giving information in this regard, the official spokesperson of the state Vigilance Bureau said that the arrest was made on the basis of a complaint lodged by a resident of Amritsar on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line. He further said that according to the complaint, the accused constable had demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 for not registering an FIR against his neighbour Krishan Kumar.
The complainant further said that his neighbour Krishan Kumar was earlier involved in drug trafficking but due to strict police monitoring and action, he reformed and is now working as a private security guard. Police officials of CIA-2, Amritsar raided Krishan Kumar's house but did not find anything illegal there.
The complainant further said that the said police employee has already taken Rs 50,000 as bribe in this regard and is demanding the remaining amount. The spokesperson further said that during the investigation, the allegations made in the complaint were found to be true. After this, a case has been registered against the said accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Amritsar Range Police Station of the Vigilance Bureau and the accused has been arrested. He will be produced in the court tomorrow and further investigation of this case is going on.
