Punjab Police Busts Narco-Terror Module, Seizes 5 kg Heroin Worth Rs 45 Crore

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police in Punjab busted a narco-terror module and arrested seven people and recovered a total of 9 kg 200 grams of heroin worth more than Rs 45 crore in two separate cases. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday that the police has busted a drug cartel operating from across the border. The gang includes a female relative and two others who provided logistical support.
Police recovered 5.2 kg heroin from them. The accused have been identified as Mandeep Kaur resident of village Ibban Kalan, Amritsar Rural, Alam Arora resident of Janta Colony Cheharta, Amritsar and Manmeet alias Golu resident of Janta Colony Cheharta Amritsar. The DGP said that preliminary investigation revealed that Mandeep had links with a person who introduced her to Pak-based smugglers. She was trying to carry out nefarious activities by impersonating a police officer at times wearing uniform. Her native house is in Khalra, Tarn Taran, which is close to the international border. He said that an FIR has been registered in this regard under NDPS Act at Police Station Cheharta. Further investigation is on to unearth their forward and backward links. In another case, Amritsar Counter Intelligence in Punjab today busted a narco-terror module by arresting four drug smugglers from the area of Government Hospital Naraingarh, Cheharta.
Four kilograms of heroin was recovered from the arrested accused. The accused have been identified as Navjot Singh alias Sahil resident of Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar, Sukhwinder Singh resident of Tarn Taran Road, Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh resident of village Sheron, Tarn Taran and Aniket son of Rajpal resident of Krishna Mandir Naraingarh, Amritsar. DGP Yadav said an FIR has been registered at police station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the contacts of the smugglers. He said the police is resolute in its commitment to eliminate organised crime and ensure peace and harmony across the state.
