Power shortage expected this summer, fears of widespread disruptions across the country

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): As temperatures soar across the country, even in February and March, the heat is breaking records. With summer approaching, the demand for cooling systems like fans, coolers, and air conditioners is already rising, and this could lead to a major issue. In the coming days, the heat is expected to reach its peak, but there’s another potential problem looming: power cuts.
India’s top grid operator has issued a serious warning about possible power outages during the upcoming summer months. According to the warning, severe electricity shortages could occur in May and June due to the high demand for power, with the risk of power cuts being the highest during this period.
The National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC) recently published a report on electricity supply and consumption, highlighting the potential strain on the grid. The report indicates that the electricity demand could rise to 15 to 20 gigawatts (GW) in May and June. The NLDC anticipates that demand will peak in May, and meeting this demand will be particularly challenging.
As the sweltering summer heat grips the country, it remains to be seen how the nation will cope with the combined pressure of rising temperatures and a strained power grid. The tale of this unfolding crisis will certainly impact millions of households and industries as they brace for a tough summer ahead.
