On Women’s Day, Delhi Unveils 'Mahila Samriddhi Scheme' Offering ₹2,500 to Eligible Women

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government will launch the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Scheme’ registration process on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. This initiative, aimed at providing financial support to women from economically weaker sections, will offer ₹2,500 monthly to eligible women in the national capital. The registration process will be part of an event at Chhatrasal Stadium, where some beneficiaries may receive assistance during the ceremony. The scheme is expected to benefit around 1.5 to 2 million women in Delhi.
Announced in the BJP’s Delhi Assembly election manifesto, the Mahila Samriddhi Scheme seeks to empower women by providing direct financial aid. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed her commitment to fulfilling this promise, which will see ₹2,500 transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
To qualify for the scheme, applicants must meet several criteria:
- Age: Women aged between 18 and 60 years.
- Employment status: Applicants must not hold any government job.
- Financial assistance: Applicants should not be receiving any other government financial aid.
- Household income: The family’s annual income must be below ₹3 lakh, and applicants should not be taxpayers.
Though the official list of required documents has not yet been released, women interested in applying may need to provide:
- Aadhaar Card
- Ration Card
- Address Proof
- Registered Mobile Number
The registration will be linked to Aadhaar numbers. Applicants will need to provide their name, location, address, and bank account linked with Aadhaar, along with details about family members.
An online portal for registration is currently under development by the Delhi government. Specialized software will be used to verify applications and cross-reference data from various departments, such as the Chief Electoral Officer and the Food and Civil Supplies Department, to identify eligible women and prevent duplicate registrations.
This move is seen as a significant step toward empowering women in Delhi, providing much-needed financial assistance to those who need it most.
