Om Birla Condemns Opposition for Wearing Slogan T-Shirts, Emphasizes House Decorum
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The proceedings of the Parliament could not take place on Thursday due to the slogan-carrying T-shirts. After the initial minutes of proceedings in the Rajya Sabha, neither any question could be asked nor any discussion took place on any topic in the House. The situation was the same in the Lok Sabha as well. The proceedings of both the Houses were later adjourned till Friday.
DMK MPs are continuously opposing delimitation in Parliament. This delimitation is related to Lok Sabha seats. DMK MPs expressed their opposition to this in Parliament. A demonstration was held with posters and banners on this issue in the Parliament premises outside the House. DMK MPs arrived in the House wearing T-shirts with slogans written on them regarding delimitation. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla lodged a strong objection to this and the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned. This uproar took place in Parliament on the issue of delimitation. Objection was raised over wearing T-shirts with slogans written on them in the House. The Lok Sabha Speaker said that it is not right to bring any kind of slogan written on them in the House. It is not right to come to the House wearing such T-shirts.
The proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned shortly after they began. In Rajya Sabha, the proceedings were first adjourned till 12 noon. While adjourning the proceedings, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he would discuss with all the floor leaders of the House. As soon as the proceedings resumed, the proceedings were adjourned till 12.15 pm. The same situation prevailed in Lok Sabha. Tamil Nadu MPs came to the House wearing T-shirts with slogans written on them to protest against the issue of delimitation. Speaker Om Birla expressed displeasure over this. He adjourned the proceedings of the House once again. On the other hand, as soon as the proceedings of Rajya Sabha began at 12.15 pm, it was adjourned till 2 pm. When the proceedings of Rajya Sabha began at 2 pm, it was adjourned till Friday.
During this time, neither zero hour nor question hour was held in Rajya Sabha. Apart from this, the functioning of the Home Ministry was also to be discussed in Rajya Sabha. In this, various departments under the Home Ministry including internal security were to be discussed. Home Minister Amit Shah was to respond at the end of the discussion. But, the discussion could not take place due to the adjournment of the proceedings of the House. The discussion on the functioning of the Home Ministry started on Wednesday evening. Some MPs from the opposition and the ruling party also put forth their views on this. But, the discussion could not be completed on Wednesday due to the completion of the time of the House.
