New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A major development has taken place in Delhi politics. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced not to contest the election for the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), thus paving the way for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form a 'triple government' in the state, centre and municipal corporation.

Now it is certain that a triple engine government will be formed in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party will not contest the mayor elections: Former Delhi minister Atishi and the party's Delhi convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj made this announcement in a press conference on Monday. Atishi said that the BJP has a majority in the MCD and the Aam Aadmi Party does not want to be involved in any kind of horse-trading or sabotage politics.

Atishi said, "Now that the BJP has all three levels of power in Delhi - the Centre, the state and the Municipal Corporation, it is their responsibility to fulfill the promises made to the people of Delhi. We are seeing that till now excuses were being made in the name of MCD. Now those excuses are over." She said that now the BJP will have to show concrete work on issues like security, education, health, cleanliness and pollution. The AAP party will play the role of a strong opposition in the MCD on all these issues.

Aam Aadmi Party also made it clear that if it contested the mayoral elections, it would have to resort to tactics like breaking or buying councillors to prove majority, which is against the party's principles. Therefore, the party has decided to step back from constitutional and moral point of view. Now BJP has the opportunity to run a triple engine government in Delhi - as it has control over the centre, state and municipal corporation, there should be no hindrance in development work.
