Bijapur (The Uttam Hindu): A fierce encounter broke out between security personnel and Naxalites in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, resulting in the death of 24 Naxalites and a jawan of the Bijapur District Reserve Guard (DRG). The encounter, which began in the forest area on the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts, is still ongoing with intermittent firing from both sides. According to police officials, the encounter started when a joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the Gangaluur police station area. The police have intensified the search operation in the area and have recovered weapons and ammunition including two Naxalites.

This encounter is the latest in a series of actions taken by security forces against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh. Earlier, there was an encounter between security forces and Naxalites on the Maharashtra border, resulting in the death of 31 Naxalites. Two soldiers were also injured in that encounter. The Bijapur district is known to be one of the most affected areas by Maoist activities in Chhattisgarh.
