Mother Sells Minor Daughter for ₹5 Lakh, What Followed Will Horrify You

Kanpur (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case of human trafficking has surfaced in Kanpur’s Ghatampur area, where a 17-year-old girl has accused her mother of selling her to a man ten years older for ₹5 lakh. The girl, who had been living with her family in Gurugram claimed her mother wanted to forcibly marry her to the son of a local landlord. After escaping with her father's help, she reached her maternal grandmother's house in Girsi village, Kanpur on March 17 and reported the incident to the Reuna police through her maternal uncle.
In a disturbing twist, the girl alleges that the Reuna police handed her back to her mother instead of taking action. The very next night, her mother allegedly returned with the landlord and a few men, assaulted her maternal uncle and grandfather and took her back to Gurugram. When the girl resisted further exploitation, she was allegedly thrown from a rooftop resulting in a broken spine. She is currently undergoing treatment at Hallet Hospital.
The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the role of the police. DCP South visited the hospital to speak with the girl and her father, while Reuna police officials claimed a different version of events suggesting the girl had willingly come to the village with a young man. An investigation is now underway to verify the facts and ensure justice is served.
