Mohali (The Uttam Hindu): A four-storey building in Mohali’s Sohana village collapsed on Saturday, trapping at least five people under the debris. The victim has been identified as Drishti Verma, a 20-year-old from Himachal Pradesh, who was rescued in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Four other individuals remain missing.

Upon receiving news of the collapse, local authorities, along with the police, rushed to the scene and initiated rescue operations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) joined the effort, and heavy excavation machines were deployed to clear the rubble. The police have filed charges against the building’s owners, Parvinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, and are investigating the cause of the collapse.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolences over the incident and instructed the administration to expedite rescue efforts and assist the affected families. Early investigations suggest that ongoing excavation work at an adjacent plot may have contributed to the building’s collapse. Acting Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tidarke has urged residents to contact the district control room (0172-2219506) with any information regarding missing persons.

All major hospitals in the area have been put on high alert, and the rescue teams have been equipped with necessary resources. This tragic accident has caused widespread panic in Mohali, with the administration and police promising to take strict action against those responsible.
