Meta Platforms Experience Global Disruption: WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Offline for 1 Hour
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Starting around 11 PM on Wednesday night, millions of users worldwide faced significant disruptions as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook experienced outages. The issue affected both desktop and mobile users preventing many from sending messages, posting updates or uploading stories across these platforms.
The outage left users confused and frustrated, unsure whether the issue was related to a technical fault or their own internet connectivity. Initially, many took to other social media platforms to report their struggles leading to widespread speculation. Some experts suggest that the issue may have been caused by a major glitch in Meta’s servers while others suspect the possibility of a cyber attack.
The downtime lasted approximately an hour, with services gradually resuming around 11:45 PM. Despite the quick recovery Meta has not yet issued an official statement regarding the exact cause of the disruption.
This is not the first instance of social media platforms facing service outages. However, simultaneous disruptions to all three major services—WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook—are rare. The outage impacted users across several countries including India and led to a wave of reactions on social media with users sharing memes and comments about the unexpected downtime.
As of now, all three platforms are back online, and users are once again able to access their accounts without issue. Meta has yet to provide a detailed explanation for the incident leaving many to speculate on the underlying cause of the outage.
