Mayawati's big decision, announces nationwide agitation on 24 December over Amit Shah's remarks
Lucknow (The Uttam Hindu): The political controversy triggered by Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar in Parliament has gained significant traction. BSP chief Mayawati has now announced a nationwide movement in response. She declared that the Bahujan Samaj Party will organize a protest on December 24, 2024.
Mayawati took to social media platform X on Saturday, stating that Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of India's original constitution, is revered as a deity for the Dalits, deprived, and marginalized communities. She expressed that Amit Shah’s disrespect towards Ambedkar has deeply hurt the people, calling his remarks a source of widespread anger and agitation across the nation. She also noted that the Ambedkarite BSP has demanded an apology and retraction of the statement, but the request remains unaddressed.
In light of the situation, Mayawati announced that if the demand is not met, BSP will raise its voice across the country. She confirmed that a peaceful protest will be held at all district headquarters on December 24. Mayawati reiterated that Baba Saheb, who fought tirelessly for the rights and welfare of Dalits/Bahujans, remains the true messiah for his followers, and his legacy is something BSP is committed to honoring. She further stated that if parties like Congress and BJP cannot respect Ambedkar, they should at least refrain from disrespecting him, emphasizing that Baba Saheb's contributions, especially in granting legal rights to SC, ST, and OBC communities, will be eternally cherished.
