Massive drug bust: Assam Rifles, Mizoram police seize Rs 173 crore worth of contraband

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On Wednesday the Assam Rifles announced the seizure of Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 173.73 crore along the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram's Champhai district. According to an official statement the Assam Rifles acted on a tip-off and collaborated with the Mizoram Police to make the bust. The joint operation led to the seizure of 57.9 kg of Methamphetamine tablets at the Zokhawthar border crossing point on February 9. The statement mentioned that the team acting on the intelligence received identified suspected individuals carrying the illegal consignment and attempted to intercept them.
However upon sensing the movement of the security forces, the suspect fled the scene, leaving the consignment behind. The authorities seized the tablets, worth Rs 173.73 crore for further investigation and legal action. Methamphetamine a banned psychostimulant drug also known as 'ice' or 'crystal meth,' is notorious for its addictive properties and euphoric effects similar to those of cocaine. Its use can lead to life-threatening consequences making its seizure a significant achievement in curbing the illegal drug trade.
