Kanpur (The Uttam Hindu): An LPG tanker and a pickup collided in Sachendi police station area on Sunday morning due to which gas started leaking from the tanker. After 3 hours of hard work, the police and fire brigade teams stopped the leak and moved the tanker to the side.

According to the information, at around 7 am a pickup (UP 75 CT 4329) going towards Kanpur in front of Orient Resort went out of control and first collided with an unknown vehicle moving on the left and then collided with an LPG tanker (UP 78 CT 0995) moving on the right. Due to the collision, three valves of the tanker got damaged and gas started leaking. The tanker driver fled from the spot after the incident.

Due to the gas leak, panic spread in the surrounding area and people started running away leaving their vehicles. As soon as the information was received the police reached the spot and stopped the traffic 2 kilometers before the incident for safety. Three fire engines from Panki and Fazalganj reached the spot and started spraying water with the help of pipes from a distance of 200 meters so that the gas could be prevented from spreading in the air.

Later, senior officials and technical team of CUGL and GAIL from Kanpur reached the spot and repaired the damaged valves and stopped the gas leak. During this, a jam of about 10 km long was formed on both sides of the highway due to which people had to travel on foot. With the help of a crane the tanker was removed from the road after 4 hours after which the traffic could be normalized. Sachendi police station in-charge Dinesh Singh Bisht said that the gas leakage has been stopped and the tanker has also been moved to the side. Now the traffic is moving normally.
