Man accused of setting wife on fire, What sparked the deadly fire?
Thiruverumbur (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic incident occurred in the Thiruverumbur neighborhood of Tamil Nadu's Trichy district, where a 56-year-old man unintentionally set his 50-year-old wife on fire during an argument. The man, Rajendra Prasad, had grown increasingly frustrated with his wife, Hema Bindu, due to her deep religiosity, as she would spend hours on prayers and rituals, often neglecting the family.
On Wednesday night, Prasad became enraged when Bindu began performing a prayer at 11 pm. During their heated argument, Prasad allegedly poured petrol on her, which he had stored in a bottle for his two-wheeler. The petrol ignited when it came into contact with a nearby lamp's flame, trapping both Prasad and Bindu in the fire.
Their sons, Gunasekar and Gurusamy, who attempted to rescue them, also suffered burn injuries. The four family members were rushed to the Trichy government hospital, where Prasad and Bindu were reported to be in critical condition. The Navalpattu police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
