Maharashtra (The Uttam Hindu): The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is set to retain power in Maharashtra, securing nine seats so far and leading in 217 of the 288 Assembly seats, according to the latest counting figures from the November 20 elections.

With the outcome becoming clear, attention has now turned to BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, credited as the architect of the party's impressive victory. There is growing speculation that Fadnavis, the second Brahmin to hold the Chief Minister's post in the state, may be sworn in for a third term.

As per the latest Election Commission figures, the BJP has won nine seats and is leading in 125, while Shiv Sena has secured three seats and is ahead in 53. The NCP has won two seats and is leading in 37. In contrast, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is struggling, with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leading in 11 seats, Congress in 20, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) in 19.

The MVA is facing a severe defeat, with its candidates leading in just 50 seats, a stark contrast to the confident claims made by its senior leaders earlier, who had predicted a resounding victory over the Mahayuti alliance.
