New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Standup comedian Kunal Kamra has got a big relief from the Madras High Court. The court has granted him anticipatory bail. This case is related to the comment made on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a program in Mumbai, after which there was a lot of controversy. Justice Sundar Mohan of Madras High Court, while hearing the case, has given interim relief to Kunal Kamra from arrest till April 7. Justice Mohan also admitted that Kamra is unable to appear in court due to the threats he is receiving.

Kamra is a resident of Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. He feared that he would be arrested by Mumbai Police for making derogatory comments on Shinde. Therefore, he applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court today. Mumbai Police has sent him summons twice to join the investigation. The controversy stems from Kamra's recent show at Khar's Habitat Comedy Club, where he performed a parody song targeting Eknath Shinde. After Kamra's show, Shiv Sena supporters got angry and vandalised the club and the hotel on Sunday night. Khar police have registered a case against Kamra on the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Mumbai Police has summoned 36-year-old Kamra twice in this case.
