Key Decision by Mann Cabinet: Easier Movement of Prisoners Across State Jails

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Cabinet Meeting … Many decisions were approved in the cabinet meeting of Punjab government. Giving information about the decisions taken in the meeting, Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab government has now made a new policy to bring notorious terrorists and criminals lodged in jails of other states to Punjab. Under this, a prisoner lodged in the jail of any state can be brought to Punjab. This process will be done with the consent of both the states where the undertrial prisoners are currently lodged and the state to which they are to be transferred after the approval of the trial court. This step will help in improving the overcrowding situation in Punjab's jails. Also, prisoners involved in crimes of those states can also be sent from Punjab.
Punjab Cabinet Meeting … Under another decision taken in the cabinet, the number of members of the school committee has now been increased to 16. In this, 12 members will be parents, while 4 members will be from the school. Also, MLA and MC will also be able to send their members in the committee. The chairman will be selected from among the parents, so that MLA and MC can get information about the needs of the school. The cabinet today approved the amendment in the 'Punjab Children's Right to Free and Compulsory Education Rules-2011'. The cabinet also approved making new rules for Group-A of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department in the larger public interest. This will help in streamlining the functioning of the department, which will greatly benefit the weaker and backward classes.
