Justice Under Fire: Delhi Police Seal Justice Yashwant Verma's Residence Amid Cash Recovery Row

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Police reached the official residence of Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma and sealed his store room and the surrounding area. According to police sources, New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahala reached the spot with his team and sealed the place of fire on the request of the investigation committee. The Delhi Police team inspected the entire store room and the surrounding area. At the same time, the Supreme Court has refused to hear the petition filed in the matter of recovery of burnt cash from the official residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Verma. In this petition, a demand was made to direct the Delhi Police to register an FIR in this matter.
Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara urged the bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna to list the petition for urgent hearing as he said that it is a matter of wider public interest. On this, the CJI said that the petition will be heard. The lawyer argued that the Supreme Court has done a commendable job, but there is a need to register an FIR. On this, the CJI remarked, "Do not make public statements." A woman and co-petitioner in the case said that if such a case was against a common citizen, many investigating agencies like CBI and ED would have gone after him. To this, the CJI said, "This is enough. The petition will be heard accordingly." Nedumpara and three other persons had filed a petition on Sunday seeking direction to the police to register an FIR in the case.
