J&K: Security Forces Neutralize Two Terrorists During Poonch Infiltration Attempt
Poonch (The Uttam Hindu): The Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district and killed two terrorists. The Nagrota-based White Knight Corps said that terrorist activity was detected along the LoC on Thursday night. Alert troops surrounded the terrorists trying to infiltrate.
Two terrorists were killed in the encounter that followed. The army later conducted a search operation in the area and recovered arms and ammunition. The army said the operation was still underway. The White Knight Corps said in a post, "Terrorist activity was detected along the Line of Control in Poonch sector last night. Alert troops acted swiftly and surrounded the infiltrating terrorists. This was followed by heavy gunfire. The operation continued throughout the day."
Security forces on Thursday launched a massive search operation in Doda district of Jammu division after locals reported sighting of some suspicious persons in the area. A day before the Doda operation, security forces conducted searches at 25 places in Rajouri district to trace and arrest over-ground workers (OGWs) of militants. OGWs act as the eyes and ears for militants. They provide them logistical support, supply weapons and keep an eye on the movements of security forces.
Intelligence agencies also reported that OGWs identify easy and unarmed targets for terrorists to spread terror in those areas. Security forces had launched offensive operations against terrorists after some cowardly attacks by terrorists in 2024.
On October 20, 2024, two terrorists barged into a workers' camp of an infrastructure company in Gagangir in Ganderbal district and opened fire. Seven civilians, including six non-local employees of the infrastructure company and a local doctor, were killed in the attack. On November 2, 2024, terrorists hurled a grenade at a busy Sunday market. A 42-year-old mother of three was killed and 11 other civilians were injured in the attack.
