Jharkhand: Blaze Guts Clothes Shop in Giridih, Lakhs Lost, 2 Trapped

Giridih (The Uttam Hindu): A huge fire broke out in a large clothes shop in Panchamba area of Giridih city of Jharkhand. A woman and a child are trapped in the flames, efforts are being made to rescue them. This shop named "Khushi Mart" is located in a three-storey building in Marwari Mohalla. The shop runs on the lower floor, while the shop owner Dinesh Dalmia and his family members live on the upper two floors.
It was told that flames started rising from the shop at around 3 o'clock on Monday. People living on the upper floor of the shop came to know about it when the smoke reached their rooms. Their screams woke up the people nearby and after this efforts to extinguish the fire began. Out of the six people present in the house, four were evacuated safely, but a woman and a girl remained trapped.
The clothes shop has been completely destroyed in the fire. The valuables of the house located on the upper floor have also been destroyed. As soon as the information was received, Panchamba police station and fire brigade teams reached the spot. The fire is so terrible that several fire engines have been deployed to extinguish it. It has not been controlled even after five hours of the accident.
DSP Kausar Ali, Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate Yashwant Srikant Visupate and police station in-charge Rajiv Kumar along with other officials are present at the spot. Relief and rescue work is going on. Barricades have been put up in the area for safety and people have been appealed to maintain safe distance.
Nine people have died in two major fire incidents in Jharkhand in the last 40 days. On March 10, five people including three children died in a massive fire at a firecracker shop in Godarmana market under Garhwa district. On March 17, four children died in a fire that broke out in a house in Geetilipi village under Jagannathpur police station area under West Singhbhum district.
