Indian Foreign Service Officer Nidhi Tewari Appointed Private Secretary to Prime Minister Modi

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a significant development, Nidhi Tewari, a 2014 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has been appointed as private secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved her appointment today. Tewari, who hails from Varanasi, has been serving in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) since November 2022, first as under secretary and then as deputy secretary since January 2023. Prior to joining the PMO, she worked in the Ministry of External Affairs Department, specifically in the disarmament and international security affairs division which reports directly to National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.
The Department of Personnel and Training issued an order stating that Tewari's appointment as private secretary to the PM will be effective immediately, on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier. This appointment comes on the heels of another significant appointment last week, where Pawan Yadav, former Deputy Commissioner of Manipur's Churachandpur district, was appointed private secretary to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. These appointments signal a transition in the Modi government's third term, with the PM promising "greater reforms to make India a $5 trillion economy by 2027.
