India to Host Inaugural 'World Audio-Visual Entertainment Summit': PM Modi

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India is set to host the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) for the first time in February next year offering a global platform to showcase the nation's creative talents, foster collaborations and establish its potential as a hub for world-class content creation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of the WAVES Summit during his monthly *Mann ki Baat* radio address on Sunday.
Drawing comparisons to global events like the World Economic Forum in Davos PM Modi announced that leaders from the media and entertainment industries, along with creative minds from around the world will convene in Delhi for the Summit, scheduled from February 5 to February 9. "This Summit marks a crucial step in positioning India as a global hub for content creation," PM Modi stated.
He underlined the vital role of young creators in preparing for WAVES showcasing the vibrant and dynamic spirit of India's creative community. The Prime Minister expressed pride in the enthusiasm of the nation's youth emphasizing their contributions to India's rapidly growing creator economy—a significant force as the country moves closer to its goal of becoming a five trillion-dollar economy. "Whether you are a budding creator an established artist part of Bollywood or regional cinema, a TV industry, professional or an innovator in animation, gaming or entertainment technology, I encourage you to participate in the WAVES Summit," he urged.
PM Modi called on all stakeholders from the entertainment and creative industries to actively engage in the Summit. He noted that WAVES would serve as a global platform to highlight India's advancements in animation, gaming, entertainment technology and both regional and mainstream cinema. In his address, PM Modi also paid tribute to legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor and iconic singer Mohammed Rafi on their 100th birth anniversaries. He lauded Raj Kapoor for showcasing India's soft power through timeless films and praised Mohammed Rafi's melodious voice that continues to resonate across generations.
Reflecting on the contributions of Akkineni Nageswara Rao in elevating Telugu cinema and preserving Indian traditions and Tapan Sinha's socially impactful films the Prime Minister emphasized their roles in shaping Indian cinema's golden era and strengthening the nation's cultural heritage. “These legends have left behind an enduring legacy, inspiring unity, awareness and admiration for generations to come,” PM Modi concluded.
