Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP from Mathurapur Bapi Haldar has given a controversial statement. He has said that Waqf property is the property of a particular community and if anyone casts an evil eye on it, his eyes will be taken out and hands and legs will be broken. Haldar also said that it is his and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's responsibility to protect Waqf property, and people should be rest assured about it.

Halder's statement has come at a time when the Waqf law is being strongly opposed in Bengal. On Friday, widespread violence was seen in the state's Murshidabad, South 24 Parganas, Malda and Hooghly districts. So far three people have lost their lives in this violence, while many others are reported to be injured. The police have arrested more than 150 people in this case. After the violence, a large number of security forces have been deployed in Murshidabad. The court has also ordered the deployment of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to control the situation.
