How Does India Look from Space? Sunita Williams Shares Heartwarming Answer, Talks About Visiting India

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams shared her experiences of seeing India from space during a press conference a few days after landing on Earth following her extended mission on the International Space Station (ISS). After spending 286 days in space, when Williams was asked how India looks from above, she replied in serious words, "Amazing, absolutely amazing."
Williams is known to often share her Indian heritage. She was particularly fascinated by the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. She explained how, every time the ISS passed over the mountain range, her astronaut Butch Wilmore would capture stunning photos. "Every time we went over the Himalayas, Butch got incredible photos, it's amazing," Williams said during the press conference. She became emotional after seeing the views. Williams explained that the view of India from space makes her feel connected to her heritage.
Moreover, Williams said that seeing India's big cities and small towns lit up at night gives a different experience. According to him, this unique perspective was really "incredible". The 59-year-old astronaut also expressed his excitement about NASA's upcoming Axiom mission, which will carry four astronauts to space, including Indian Air Force test pilot and ISRO astronaut Subhanshu Shukla. "It's pretty cool", he said, acknowledging that Shukla is a "hometown hero" for India.
Williams also expressed her desire to contribute to India's space programme and said she wanted to share her experience and support the country's growing space ambitions. "I would love to be a part of it and help them," she said.
The Indian-origin astronaut expressed her desire to visit India, 'her father's country', soon. During her conversation with Wilmore, she discussed a trip to India. While talking to Wilmore, the two joked about taking their colleagues on a trip to India. She laughed and said, "You may look a little different. It's okay. We'll feed you some spicy food."
