Hyderabad (The Uttam Hindu): In Hyderabad, a retired Army jawan working as a security guard at a defense establishment allegedly murdered his wife, Puttavenkata Madhavi (35), on January 15. He reportedly attempted to cover up the crime by chopping her body into pieces, boiling them in a pressure cooker, grinding the bones with a pestle and disposing of the remains in a nearby lake. Madhavi was reported missing on January 18 after her family questioned her husband Gurumurthy, about her whereabouts. Gurumurthy claimed she had left home following an argument over visiting a relative.

During questioning at the Meerpet police station, Gurumurthy allegedly confessed to killing Madhavi in a fit of rage. He detailed how he dismembered her body in the bathroom, boiled the parts on a large stove used in eateries, separated and ground the bones and boiled them again over three days. He then packed the remains in a bag and dumped them into a lake near Meerpet. Police teams, including a dog squad have been deployed to search for the remains but nothing has been recovered so far.

Gurumurthy and Madhavi had been married for 13 years and lived in Jillelaguda, Hyderabad with their two children who were visiting their aunt at the time of the alleged crime. After committing the act, Gurumurthy staged a missing person drama and informed Madhavi's parents. Currently, the case is being treated as a missing person investigation as no evidence of the murder has been found yet. However, police stated that the case would soon be altered to murder, and Gurumurthy will be formally arrested.
