Moradabad (The Uttam Hindu): The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police has achieved a major success. The ATS has arrested an absconding and active member of the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen, Ulfat Hussain alias Mohammad Saifullah Islam alias Afzal alias Hussain Malik from Moradabad. A reward of Rs 25,000 was declared on the arrested terrorist and he was absconding since 2002.

ATS officials said that Ulfat Hussain, a resident of Poonch district of Kashmir, had come to Moradabad to carry out a major terrorist incident after receiving training in Hizbul Mujahideen's training camp in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). It is noteworthy that Ulfat Hussain was earlier arrested on July 9, 2001 with AK 47, AK 56 and two pistols, 12 hand grenades, 50 detonators, 29 kg explosives and more than 500 cartridges. However, after being released on bail, he absconded and was constantly dodging the police. Moradabad court had also issued a warrant against him.

Katghar police had arrested Ulfat Hussain for the first time in 2001 for plotting to carry out a terrorist incident. At that time, police had recovered a huge amount of arms and explosives from his possession, which included AK-47, AK 56, two pistols, hand grenades and 39 timer explosives. After being released from jail, the terrorist absconded and police was searching for him for the last 18 years.

Police investigation has also revealed that Ulfat Hussain alias Mohammad Saiful Islam had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist organization in 1999 and had also received terrorist training in PoK. After receiving training, he reached Moradabad and was planning to carry out a major incident here.

On July 9, 2021, the police arrested him again, but he got bail in 2007. After getting bail, the terrorist fled from Moradabad. In 2015, the court issued a warrant against him, but he remained out of the reach of the police. After this, on March 5, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate 14 of Moradabad issued a permanent warrant against the terrorist and the officials announced a reward of Rs 25 thousand on him.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of ATS and Katghar police finally succeeded in arresting Ulfat Hussain. The police is now interrogating him to get more information about his terror network and the plot to carry out the attack in Moradabad.
