New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): With summer intensifying across India, the IMD has issued heatwave warnings for several states. Odisha is under alert from March 16-18, while Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha, and North Telangana may experience extreme heat on March 16-17. Chhattisgarh has a heatwave warning for March 16 and North Interior Karnataka will see rising temperatures from March 18-20. Northwest India will witness a steady temperature rise of 2-4°C in the next few days, while Central India may see a slight drop after 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Northeast India is set to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Arunachal Pradesh will experience significant rain on March 16-17, along with strong winds of 30-40 km/hr. Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram are also expected to see showers. Northern states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will witness rain, while Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been issued a storm and lightning alert for March 16.

In the last 24 hours, several regions, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of South India have received rainfall. With rising heat and storm threats residents are advised to take precautions and stay updated with weather alerts.
