Heartbreaking Tragedy: Truck Carrying Wedding Guests Plunges Into River, 60 Lives Lost

Addis Ababa (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating accident occurred in Ethiopia, where a truck carrying passengers plunged into a river resulting in the tragic loss of 60 lives. The incident happened in the Bona district of the Southern Sidama region according to regional officials. The injured are currently receiving treatment at Bona General Hospital as confirmed by the Regional Communication Bureau in a statement issued late Sunday night.

The truck was reportedly transporting passengers to a wedding ceremony as reported by the state-run Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation. Such horrific road accidents are unfortunately common in Ethiopia with poor driving standards and outdated vehicles posing significant challenges to road safety. A similar tragedy occurred in 2018, when a bus carrying students fell into a gorge, claiming 38 lives.
